It turns out that the templating structures (i.e. parental #centrioles and #deuterosomes) are pretty much dispensable for number regulation. So what is controlling this process? We provide some hypotheses from recent work that point to potential modes of regulation.

Take that #NPC! #Cilia has arrived in town and it has a 9-fold symmetry! 8 is sooo lame! :-) (#biased #centrioles #FirstLove)
NPC is NOT "the largest molecular machine in human cells". The system we work on, the axoneme within the cilia, for example, has a diameter of ~220 nm with more than >500 distinct protein components. In comparison, NPC has a diameter of ~130 nm and <50 distinct proteins.
